The day

6:30am. Somehow I arose out of slumber and found my way to annandale, va to teach ESL with P' Kovit, Sam and Hallie. My relationship with the immigrants there is really starting to pick up. I feel less like just another stranger and more like a friend. We share bananas covered in chocolate and even have sweet handshakes.
My spanish has gotten way better. I've always known more spanish than thai but have felt way more confidant in thai because of my extensive use of it in thailand. I finally feel like my spanish is catching up. This guy Jose and I talk for 20 minutes about the languages of indigenous nations in north america. I know, it's pretty sweet. I even have had a few phone calls with a few of the day labors in spanish when they had questions about our spanish class. I even got drunk dialed once, twice, three times by this 19 year kid from guatemala. i'm not even sure what language he was speaking, some sort of drunk dialect of spanglish.

2:00pm ENGAGE meeting and lunch on the steps. Shin's been cooking us traditional japanese food and sets it up with a these little bowels and then we eat outside on the steps in true dc fashion. Everything Shin makes is pretty high on the yummy scale.

4:00pm I starting working at this ice cream place downtown, which so far, i actually really enjoy. There's so much top 40 that even phil would like it. I must admit, it really, it comes down to two words: Free burritos. I know, you're jealous. Me too. We have a burritos/ice cream exchange with the place next door.
Through the night two different groups of friends came in. Marine and then Sam later on in the night. Seeing your friends during work is really refreshing. There was a lot of free ice cream going around that night.

12:00am Home stretch. Riding in dc is for sure, different than riding in portland. There is a constant barrage of cars rushing past you, none taking particular note of your presence. I thought i would be a little apprehensive about riding in dc, but i find myself riding more aggressive, confidant, faster, more technically than before. I fucking love it. It's the time when i feel the happiest here, especially at night with no one out. I feel free and a sense of of contentment I couldn't compare with any other time in my life.

12:30am Nighttime drink and hanging out with roommates on the porch. Sam, P'kovit and I had a entire meeting about our internship in thai.

what a good day

...and a thing about inca cola. since working with the day laborers for some reason we've been drinking a lot of inca cola. it tastes like bubble gum, but we keep drinking it.

water is boring, inca is better

and sam is a hobo
