Well, here we are

dc

Transitioning, admittedly, has been tough.
DC has been a whirlwind. The first two weeks a lot happened and i never got to catch my breath leaving me feeling really unsettled. I think the first week here i only spent four hours at home aside from sleeping. Between thailand and coming to dc i spent less than 24 hours in portland so I think those first few days i was looking for some familiarity to help ground me. Unfortunately, the closest sign of home was Matt, who left the day after i got here for his frolics in europe.

But, whatever. That was so last week.

During my second week in dc I began to explore more of the area i live in. Let me just say, I love the area i live in. Towards U street there are games of street ball being played, old crazy men sitting around on their doorsteps, yelling and discussing politics. And there' s old places like Ben's Chili Bowl which has been open for 50 years and has a mixed ambiance that comes from being a part of the local black community for so long and the presences of young professionals that have begun to move into the neighborhood. Oh, and there is the presence of my favorite characteristic of dc: all the mom and pops that sell pizza, chinese food and subs all in the same store which are present on almost every block of the inner city.

So i'm loving dc again. Here is an example of why:

Yesterday, as i was about to get on my bike, these two guys with dreads and dunks came up to me and starting flipping out about my frame. They talked for about a minute straight, feeding off of each other and finishing each other's sentences. I think i said one or two words the entire time, but the conscious was:
"that is some nice shit"
So, there you go matt. Just in case you doubted, your bike is some nice shit.

Working with shan and margo has been really great. Sometimes i'm even giddy to go to work because i get to hang out with them. giddy.
